Printing Guide - Complex Terrain & Text

Voyaprint exports a low-poly terrain with raised text labels. The geometry has many small enclosed regions - here are the slicer and printer settings that consistently produce clean results.

Broken Mesh Fixes Most Critical

Address the open edges and small-region errors that complex terrain/text STLs naturally have:

Slicing Mode → "Close holes" - forces the slicer to treat open contours as solid, directly fixes hollow blob regions.
Slice gap closing radius → 0.1–0.2 mm - aggressively closes small mesh gaps the slicer would otherwise leave empty.
Solid infill every 3–4 layers - caps off any remaining hollow regions from above and below regardless of mesh issues.

Arachne Settings Small Features

Minimum feature size → 10% or lower - forces Arachne to fill tiny detail areas it would normally skip.
Minimum perimeter width → 50–60% - allows thinner lines to squeeze into tight geometry like letter edges.

Infill

Solid infill threshold area → 0 mm² - no minimum, attempt infill everywhere.
Infill density → 25–35% - 15% is too sparse for complex geometry with many small enclosed regions.
Infill anchor length → 0 mm - forces lines to always anchor to perimeters.

Bed & First Layer Adhesion Critical

The bottom is completely flat and large - adhesion is everything:

Bed temperature - PLA 70 °C · PETG 90–100 °C · ABS 110 °C. Go high - full flat contact needs strong adhesion.
First layer height → 0.2–0.25 mm - slightly thicker for better squish.
First layer speed → 20–25 mm/s - slow for reliable adhesion across the full surface.
Brim → 5–8 mm - highly recommended given the large flat footprint.
Clean the bed with IPA before printing.

Perimeters & Top/Bottom Layers

Perimeters → 3–4 - Arachne uses these to fill narrow letter strokes and terrain edges.
Top solid layers → 6–7 - bridges over any remaining internal voids so the surface looks perfect.
Bottom solid layers → 5–6 - same logic from below.
Extra perimeters if needed - enabled.

Use the higher end of nozzle range for better layer adhesion on tall raised text and terrain features.

Speed

Perimeters → 40–50 mm/s - slower for clean letter edges.
Infill → 60–80 mm/s.
Top solid infill → 30–40 mm/s - slow for a smooth visible surface.
